The Palestinian documentary No Other Land has rightfully earned a nomination for Best Documentary at this year’s Oscars, bringing attention to the struggles of Palestinians under Israeli occupation.

Directed by a collective of four filmmakers—activists Basel Adra, Hamdan Ballal, Yuval Abraham, and Rachel Szor—the film marks a powerful debut that amplifies the voice of the oppressed.

No Other Land follows the journey of Adra, a young Palestinian activist from Masafer Yatta in the occupied West Bank, as he courageously fights against the mass expulsion of his community by Israeli forces.

Since his childhood, Adra has been documenting the destruction of homes and the forced displacement of innocent residents in his region, a direct result of Israel’s brutal military occupation.

The film also sheds light on Adra’s complex and poignant partnership with Abraham, an Israeli journalist who lends support to his cause.

However, this alliance is tested by the stark contrast in their lives—Adra’s existence is defined by occupation and suffering, while Abraham remains sheltered in the safety and freedom afforded to him by the Israeli state.

No Other Land has garnered significant recognition on the pre-Oscar awards circuit, winning prestigious accolades such as Best Documentary and Best Director at the IDA Awards, Best European Documentary at the European Film Awards, and Best Documentary at the Berlin Film Festival, where it premiered in February.

This film brings much-needed global attention to the Palestinian struggle, and the world will be watching when the 2025 Academy Awards take place on March 3.edia object widgetmedia object widget
