Chipotle is offering a BOGO deal today for Friday the 13th

Chipotle is offering a Buy One, Get One free deal for meals on Friday the 13th — but only for those with tattoos.

From 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. this March 13th, the restaurant chain is offering the buy one entrée, get another free deal to customers with various forms of body ink. Tattoos can range from permanent to temporary ink, or drawn-on designs, according to a press release from Chipotle.

Limited to five free menu items per check, the BOGO deal is being offered across locations in the U.S., Canada, the U.K., France and Germany.

In addition, Chipotle partnered with singer and rapper Swae Lee to create a sheet of temporary tattoos inspired by the designs on a Chipotle bag that will only be sold at the Midtown Miami restaurant while supplies last.

The promotion comes years after the phrase “tatted like a Chipotle bag” was first coined in 2019. After an X user shared a shirtless picture of Adam Levine during a performance, the fan quipped about Levine’s tattoos on his chest and arms looking like the design of Chipotle’s to-go bags.

Since then, people have poked fun at how many tattoos they have and even jokingly attached the brand’s paper to-go bags on their arms, to say they were “tatted like a Chipotle bag.”

“What started as an internet meme became a real-world expression of fandom for our brand,” Stephanie Perdue, Interim Chief Marketing Officer, said in a press release.

“Bringing this promotion back for Friday the 13th further establishes our connection with the tattoo community, and partnering with Swae Lee allows us to spotlight his authentic passion for the brand and give our fans something extra to commemorate the moment together.”

Chipotle is not the only chain trying to give customers a dash of luck on the typically unlucky day. Krispy Kreme is also honoring Friday the 13th by offering a dozen Original Glazed doughnuts for 13 cents with the purchase of any box of one dozen donuts.

The promotion is limited to one 13-cent box per person at participating locations in-store or for pick-up or delivery on the Krispy Kreme app or website with the promotional code “13.”

Earlier this year, Krispy Kreme participated in a different promotion to celebrate the day, where they gave away 13,000 12-count boxes of original glazed donuts to customers at random across participating locations in the U.S.
