    Tom Hanks’ wife Rita Wilson marks ten years cancer-free with emotional message: ‘So deeply grateful’

    Tom Hanks’ wife Rita Wilson is celebrating an important milestone this week – the actress and singer is marking 10 years cancer-free.

    Wilson, 68, shared an emotional video on Instagram with fans to commemorate the occasion, saying she is “so deeply grateful” to have her health after her breast cancer journey.

    The Sleepless in Seattle star was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2015 and underwent a a double mastectomy and reconstruction.

    “Hi, just wanted to say today is a celebration for me. March 31st marks 10 years of being cancer free,” she said in her video message.

    The star went on to say that she doesn’t ”talk about it much, but I think it’s important to celebrate good news”.

    She continued: “10 years. And I am so deeply grateful.”

    She shared a message to her doctors and family and friends who helped her throughout her journey, and a message to other cancer survivors.

    “I’m so thankful to my doctors. To my friends, to my family. The gratitude is overwhelming. Didn’t always feel this way,” Wilson remarked.

    “And you know that, anybody who’s going through [it, or] who’s survived knows that it’s an up and down, like, hamster wheel. But then you get to this point.”

    Wilson added her best wishes to anyone else who might be enduring a health battle, saying: “You are in my thoughts and prayers.”

    In a piece she penned for Harper’s Bazaar in 2017, Wilson spoke about her shock diagnosis.

    “I had initially been misdiagnosed and was told I didn’t have cancer. But a friend suggested that I get a second opinion on my pathology,” she wrote.

    “I did, and was stunned to hear the words you never want to hear: ‘You have cancer.'”

    Wilson said she turned to meditation to deal with her anxiety.
