There are two things Sarah Jessica Parker will never do – read fan comments about Sex and the City and And Just Like That, or watch any episodes of either series.
The popular franchise wraps up on HBO/MAX this week, with the final episode of And Just Like That airing in Australia on Friday.
Parker, 60, was recently asked during a People interview if she ever monitors fan reactions to the show and said “never”.

There are several robust online communities on social media, including on Reddit, that discuss the show in depth, which Parker does a lot to avoid.
“I don’t have the constitution for that, because I think you’re going to perhaps read things or hear things that don’t always feel great,” she explained to the publication.
“When you’re part of a community, people are going to have a lot of feelings. And it doesn’t mean that a feeling can’t change, it’s a reaction.
“We want very much for people to have all those feelings, and it’s not for us to police or try to correct them.”

“So I’m a very inexperienced troller or a sneaker around-er, because I think that conversation is better left not in any way witnessed or babysat by me.”
This latest admission followed her confession that she won’t watch episodes of the shows either, during an appearance on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen on July 13.
“When you’re part of a community, people are going to have a lot of feelings.”
Cohen asked her about this following her previous admission on The Howard Stern Show about her choice not to view her work.
“And the fans were upset about that,” Cohen told Parker who explained it wasn’t because she didn’t love both shows.
“I don’t not watch it because I’m being cavalier about my relationship [with Carrie], I don’t watch it because I don’t love watching my work, myself,” she explained.
“It doesn’t touch on how I feel about the experience and how much I care, in fact it’s because I care that I can’t watch it.”
Glaring detail in Sex and the City stars’ anniversary video
Sex and the City debuted on HBO in 1998 and ran until 2004. The popular series was followed by two movies released in 2008 and 2010 and later the prequel The Carrie Diaries which ran from 2013 until 2014.
The final spin off, And Just Like That, ran from 2021 until 2025.
There is speculation as to whether the show was cancelled or ended by show creator Michael Patrick King and Executive Producer and star Parker.
“And just like that … the ongoing storytelling of the Sex And The City universe is coming to an end,” said King in a message posted to Instagram.
“While I was writing the last episode of And Just Like That … Season 3, it became clear to me that this might be a wonderful place to stop. Along with Sarah Jessica Parker, Casey Bloys and Sarah Aubrey, we decided to end the popular series this year with a two-part finale and extended the original series order from 10 episodes to 12.

“SJP and I held off announcing the news until now because we didn’t want the word ‘final’ to overshadow the fun of watching the season. It’s with great gratitude we thank all the viewers who have let these characters into their homes and their hearts over these many years.”
Following the release of King’s statement, Parker took to Instagram with an emotional tribute to the character she’s played for almost three decades, sharing a montage of clips and a lengthy poem.
“Carrie Bradshaw has dominated my professional heartbeat for 27 years. I think I have loved her most of all,” the actress wrote.

“I know others have loved her just as I have. Been frustrated, condemned and rooted for her. The symphony of all those emotions has been the greatest soundtrack and most consequential companion. Therefore the most sentimental and profound gratitude and lifetime of debt. To you all.”
Sex and the City was initial based on a newspaper column written by American journalist Candice Bushnell who later released a book based on her work.
Much of the early seasons of Sex and the City was based on Bushnell’s own life and experiences, before it took on a life of it’s own.
