Ryan Coogler’s horror movie Sinners after 35 years turned out to be something- the first horror film since 1989 to be graced with an A CinemaScore is now Sinners. Somehow, this event has left many angry yet euphoric people in the process.

The announcement via Twitter from Film Updates received instant reaction-High jubilation from a section as others asked if Sinners could be classified as a horror film. Other parts of the Twitter mob viciously lambasted CinemaScore. Some people would like to just cook it as drama.
First, the hype squad. Genesis (jehnuhsuhs) screamed in all caps, “THAT’S WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU MAKE ORIGINAL SHT WITH SOME PASSION! WE LOVE TRUE CINEMA!” K.Boogie kept it simple: “Because it’s goated.” And mel just vibed with “Love to see it.” Short, sweet, no notes.
This set the scene for some genre cops to crash the party with their opinion that Sinners was not really horror. Jakub Vopelka said simply, “It’s not really a horror film though.” “It’s not really a horror movie; that’s really lowballing it,” agreed Diego (SantanaFilmss). “Great score, but it’s not a horror movie,” Pest Control (Ess_Tee_Dee) said. He was going rampantly by calling it “a love story.”
Myk McGrane had an entirely different take, bashing the 35-year claim: “Horror is very very subjective, but…. That’s psychotically unfair to some great ones that have come.” He counted some classics that did receive the A, leading straight into a conversation on whether CinemaScore actually means anything. “Hereditary? Midsommar? Get Out? 28 Days Later?” Questions Bobby Dreveny, wondering how any of them failed to score higher.
It turned ugly when Jahibear told McGrane, “Just say you hate black ppl.” Ouch. The lab assistant of Jack Griffin (gays_n_shit) was merciless when he delivered the killing shot: “That just goes to prove that cinemascore is full of hacks because what do you mean there hasn’t been an A worthy horror film in THIRTY FIVE YEARS?”
Some were trying to stick positively amidst the havoc. Big Fudge made a shout out to Get Out and Nope but added, “Movie deserved it tho.” Hailee Steinfeld STAN praised the star: “Hailee Steinfeld never misses.” And val ౨ৎ was just excited to see it that day.
The wildest take? TashaNash calling it “a new era From Dusk Till Dawn” and therefore arguing that Jack O’Connell isn’t getting enough credit. Random, but okay.
No matter how one perceives it, Sinners has made its historic mark, and so is Ryan Coogler. As for me, I am off to check whether the local theatre still has any showings.

If you’re keeping score, the last horror to get an A was… well, I don’t know. Maybe The Conjuring? Someone should check that. Either way, congratulations to everyone in Sinners. Now let’s fight genres for the next three hours.
