Perez Hilton reveals reason for 21-day hospital visit in health update, sepsis, the flu

    -

Controversial celebrity blogger Perez Hilton recently sparked concerns for his health after sharing photos of himself in a hospital bed

And now the 48-year-old has revealed the reason for the hospitalisation and explained that while it started off as the flu, he ended up with sepsis and his body started to fall apart.

“My stupidity landed me in the hospital in 21 days and this is the most important video that I have ever shared,” Hilton began in a video shared on YouTube on Monday.

“It was the worst and best thing that’s ever happened to me.”

Hilton said that he had the flu for “about a week” before he was first hospitalised and was given medication.

But he noted that he wasn’t taking his medication with food, which led to him developing an ulcer, a perforation and sepsis.

“People die of sepsis,” Hilton said through tears in the video.

“The day before I was hospitalised, I was in so much stomach pain. I was like, ‘This is weird, but it will go away.’ The next morning, I couldn’t walk. I had to be taken by ambulance to the hospital,” he continued.

Hilton added that he was grateful for the care he received in hospital over his 21-day stay and felt like he knew everyone by the time he was finally discharged.

The gossip guru explained that he underwent a lot of testing in his first days of being in the hospital, but doctors couldn’t find the perforation.

“Eventually, after five days, I ended up having laparoscopic surgery,” he said.

“Surgery where they don’t cut you up, but they miraculously make these incisions … to literally flip around all of my organs, trying to find the perforation first, then after flipping around all of my organs, washing me out ’cause I had so much infection in there. So much infection.”

But despite the surgery things kept getting worse.

“My body just kept falling apart,” he added, noting that his heart “got out of control.”

Hilton then developed another infection in the hospital, which he explained is common. He was also only getting food through an IV and when he was able to start eating again it was very hard on his body.

“It was such a slow process. I mean, two weeks of just sickness and then another week of getting better before I was released,” he continued.

“The last week was hell, because I had already been in the hospital two weeks by then. I was like, ‘I just want to go home. I just want to be with my babies’.”

Hilton noted that it’s been incredibly tough and he’s developed a lot of weakness after spending so much time in bed, swelling and he’s also lost a lot of weight.

“And now that I am home, I am not 100 percent. I brought the hospital with me,” Hilton continued and pointed to a PICC line inserted into his arm.

He is currently being treated through an IV and believes it’s a lot more effective than treating it with pills.

In an effort to further improve his health, Hilton also added that he is planning on changing his habits including getting more sleep and having dinner with his kids and mum.

On Sunday Hilton shared a carousel of images of himself in hospital, sparking concerns from fans.

He simply captioned the post, “March madness indeed! Have I got a story to tell!”

The vague nature of the caption had fans flooding the comments with well wishes.
