If ever there was a novel excuse to justify one’s viewing of a show Sunday, it was Pascal Siakam. The NBA forward lieutenant, till now only regarded as Spicy P by a few, posted a clip with him grooving to SZA’s music with the caption “SUNDAY BANGERS: I gotta go @sza”. Thus, the internet was bent over in shock and disbelief. We see Siakam passionately singing with complete hand gestures worthy of an entire dramatic production with the slowed-down remix of SZA’s “Open Arms.” Describe that Spicy P energy.

Watching the video transcript, Siakam seemed to be all in the moment with his actions as he sang the words “I just wanna hold on to you crying,” and “I gotta let you go” with vocal chops of his own. I’m unsure if he really was singing those words or rather gave them a serious lip-sync, but what is certain is that: Pascal Siakam can crack the icebreaker for anybody, anywhere in entertainment and even the NBA.
One person swiftly responded, complimenting his taste: “ya bro you got Maddd taste bruh.” Another added, “A SZA fan smart man,” as if applauding him for such a great choice. Then, the comment bars were crushed with praises and further demands; one fan hilariously pleaded: “GIVE ME THAT PLAYLIST ALREADY SPICY P 😂😂.”
Another individual was simply in awe of Pascal’s performance: “Didn’t know Pascal can sing🔥🔥🔥,” while another extolled him, “Sang that s#it my boy 🔥🔥🔥😂😂😂.” The jests were well received by others. Another joked: “SZA is late… u already married to the ring champ 🏀” in reference to his title-winning season with the Raptors.
These engagements even attracted some foreign fans. One fan with a French background commented, “You know how to be in the mood,” and this comment was thereafter translated. On another note, another cheeky fan flirted, “You singing to me boo?😍,” now it’s time to let Siakam’s charm overshadow his basketball fame.
But more than a handful of people came for the vibes. A hopeful artist from Cameroon used this opportunity to make an ask: “Hi Pascal, I’m Christophelle, I come from Cameroon 🇨🇲 and I’m a music artist in Canada. 🇨🇦 I released my first single last month and I want to have the chance to be on your next Sunday Banger ✨🙇🏽♀️.”
This proceeded into a mini SZA appreciation thread when one fan, bewildered, asked, “What’s the title of the song? Somebody helps me out please.” The answer swiftly arrived from someone who said, “Open Arms!”
When the comment section was somewhat calm, the verdict was clear–Pascal Siakam just needs to hurry up and drop a cover album. Somebody said, “Just drop the cover album Pascal,” and another agreed.
Was it just a fun Sunday act, or at least a 1 percent chance for a music career in the making? That said, Siakam surely can keep his fans entertained, both on and off the court. The NBA season should be close to the against-the-raptors set, and they are excited to see what’s next from him. And if he drops that playlist, or better yet, a cover album, the entire internet will be ready.
