    Ozzy Osbourne death: Family planning a ‘small’ funeral following public event for fans

    Ozzy Osbourne’s family are planning a “small” private family funeral for the British rock icon, following his death on July 22 aged 76.

    While the heavy metal icon was known for his big on stage persona, it seems as though his farewell will be something different. 

    A source has told People the family are “very grateful for the special family time they had together before Ozzy passed”.

    “They’re planning a small, private funeral that will be a celebration of his life. Ozzy would never want a mope-fest,” added the source.

    But fans will also be given a chance to farewell the British rocker.

    His funeral cortege set to pass through his home city of Birmingham on July 30 ahead of the private family event.

    The Black Sabbath singer’s hearse will travel along Broad Street to Black Sabbath Bridge and the Black Sabbath bench, where fans have left thousands of floral tributes and held vigils since the news of his death.

    Lord Mayor Zafar Iqbal said: “It was important to the city that we support a fitting, dignified tribute ahead of a private family funeral. We know how much this moment will mean to his fans.”

    The funeral procession has reportedly been paid for by the Osbourne family. It is understood wife Sharon, children Jack and Kelly, and other family members may follow the procession, ahead of a private family funeral later in the day.

    The public funeral procession will also be live streamed on the Black Sabbath Bench website.

    Osbourne is survived by wife Sharon, their children Aimee, 41, Jack, 39, and Kelly, 40, as well as his children Jessica, Louis and Elliot from his marriage to Thelma Riley.

    He was also a grandfather to 10 grandchildren, including Jack Osbourne’s four children, Pearl, Andy, Minnie and Maple and Kelly’s son Sidney.

    Daughter Jessica is mum to three children, Isabella, Kitty and Harry. Louis has two children, Maia and Elijah.

    The music icon died just weeks after wrapping up his farewell tour with Black Sabbath.

    His final show was in his native Birmingham, England on July 5.

    “You have no idea how I feel,” he said from the stage while sitting in a throne topped with a bat.

    “Thank you from the bottom of my heart.”

    His family announced his death is a statement, which read: “It is with more sadness than mere words can convey that we have to report that our beloved Ozzy Osbourne has passed away this morning,” the statement read.

    “He was with his family and surrounded by love. We ask everyone to respect our family privacy at this time.”

    Osbourne first found fame as the lead singer of Black Sabbath from 1968, his on stage antics earning him the moniker the Prince of Darkness.

    These antics included biting the head off a bat during a concert.

    He also battled substance abuse throughout his career, leading him to be fired from the band in 1979, which is when he launched a successful solo career.

    In 2002, The Osbournes reality TV show launched on MTV, earning him a new legion of fans.

    He starred on the show with wife Sharon and two of their children, Jack and Kelly.

    Osbourne revealed he had been diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease during an interview on Good Morning America in 2019.

    He said during a SiriusXM radio show during his farewell tour: “I have made it to 2025. I can’t walk, but you know what I was thinking over the holidays? For all my complaining, I’m still alive.

    “I may be moaning that I can’t walk but I look down the road and there’s people that didn’t do half as much as me and didn’t make it.”
