Father’s Day postings are mostly colored with sentimental undertones, and the stylist Misa Hylton paid such an instance of tribute to her late father by way of an Instagram post. The image, in sepia, is all but nostalgic: small Misa smiling under the stiff glare of her father who would have worn sunglasses, scruffy beard grown-out, and just the thought of it stirred warmth of love that echoed perfectly with those words of hers about how she misses him. Laughter, presence, and advisements: Shrug!

In the caption, she wrote, “Happy Father’s Day Daddy 🤍🕊️ It never gets easier, you just learn how to live with it.” She also mentioned that she missed the physical presence of her father especially now more than ever and that a large part of the strong woman she had come to be was because of him. She closed with, “I stand tall because of you. Love you!!.”
The post struck down many, and the comments were filled with hearts and spirits. One commented: “Him was too handsome,” while another opined, “Did he go by Magic or something like that?” An insinuation of “Magic” appears to suggest that the son must have been of some notoriety in their little world, but Misa has never confirmed or denied such details publicly.
More shared the feeling: “Misa, you know you’re going to make me cry!!! #EastOrangeStrong,” referencing their shared hometown.” Another commenter gave her condolences: “Happy Heavenly Father’s Day to your father and may he Rest in Heaven 🙏🏾🕊️.”
The love seemed to flow without ceasing. “Awww Happy Heavenly Father’s Day Mr. Hooten! You are truly missed,” read one beautiful tribute, implying that Misa’s father was loved not only by his family but practically by everyone who knew him.
Misa, known for shaping fashion into a big part of ’90s hip-hop style culture through her invention, has always been outspoken about family matters. Yet, in my opinion, this one felt completely raw and exposed as it unmasks the real, raw connection between her and her dad and how his ways are still leading her.
Father’s Day, for anyone who has still got his dad around, is a great day, but for anyone that has lost one already goes hard. Misa’s reminder plainly made it clear that grief does not lessen—it only changes its form as times go.
Although Misa never really went into any sort of detail on her father’s passing, her respect and mercy for him were clear. That post was more than just coming from her heart; it was from the heart of all those who recognize forever being affected by that father’s life.
And judging from the comments and reactions, one could easily say that Misa’s father was a man who had touched many souls-well beyond those of his immediate family. Whether it was his laughter, his counsel, or just sitting with an arm around Misa when no words were necessary, his being is being remembered not just by Misa herself but by all those who weighed in on his behalf in the comments.
In essence, that post was about living instead of mourning; and if those comments mean anything, Misa’s dad was obviously someone deserving of celebration.

So cheers to the dads—those walking among us, and the ones looking down at us from above. Teachings, love, and yes, even a few bad jokes still live on. And if Misa’s tribute teaches us anything, it’s that the best ones never really leave us at all. They find clever ways to remind us they’re still around.
