Gilbert Arenas may be known for lighting up the court as an NBA All-Star, but off the court, he’s just “Dad” to five talented kids. The former basketball star shares four children—Izela, Alijah, Hamiley, and Aloni—with ex-partner Laura Govan, and a daughter, Gia, with ex-girlfriend Lindsay Faulk.
From basketball courts to cheerleading mats, each child is forging a path of their own—many following in their father’s athletic footsteps.
Izela Arenas
Born on Dec. 24, 2005, Izela is a talented basketball player who began her collegiate career at Louisville. She has since transferred to Kansas State University, continuing to develop her skills on the court. Known for her competitive spirit and leadership, Izela has been a standout since her high school days
Speaking during Louisville’s 2024 Media Day, Izela opened up about adjusting to the demands of college basketball and life away from home.
“It’s been great. I’m from Los Angeles, so the time difference was very difficult coming here. But in terms of basketball, the physicality, the pace of the game has been a little bit difficult. But like for the last 3 months, it’s been a great experience just like getting into that, you know, environment of basketball.”
Alijah Arenas
Alijah, born March 16, 2007, is a highly ranked high school basketball prospect. He recently committed to play for the USC Trojans, reclassifying to graduate in 2025.
His father has been a hands-on coach throughout the journey.
On Podcast P with Paul George, Gilbert explained, “Ain’t no days off … We get 3 [hundred or] 400 shots up before school,” Arenas said. “He’s coachable … depending on what day it is in the mornings we’ll get up at like 5:30 so he [practices] an hour and a half. [He goes to school, comes home and then] works out and we got lifting right after and then we got more shooting, more dribbling.”
Tragically, on April 24, 2025, Alijah was involved in a serious car accident in Los Angeles while driving a Tesla Cybertruck. He is currently in a medically induced coma due to significant smoke inhalation, though he did not sustain major physical injuries. The sports community has rallied around the Arenas family during this difficult time.
Hamiley Arenas
Born Dec. 9, 2009, Hamiley is making her mark as both a budding basketball player and a writer. She has shown a passion for storytelling and athletics, embodying the versatility encouraged by her father
Aloni Arenas
Aloni, born on June 1, 2011, is already gaining attention for his basketball skills.
He started making waves in the seventh grade after footage of him scoring on high schoolers was shared online. ESPN’s SportsCenter Next even covered him on social media, highlighting how they believe Aloni is on the path to becoming a future NBA star.
“At first glance he looks a lot like his older brother Alijah Arenas, who’s been working out with NBA stars all summer despite being a junior in high school,” Derrick Echols II said in an Instagram clip. “Aloni is putting in work against high schoolers despite being in middle school. And I’m sure Aloni learned a thing or two from his sister Izela Arenas, who’s going to her freshman season at Louisville.”
Gia Arenas
The youngest of the Arenas siblings, Gia was born on November 14, 2014. She’s already a national champion in cheerleading, showing that athletic talent runs deep in the family.
In 2024, Gia and her team won the National Cheerleading Association Division Championship. “Dallas did not disappoint Thank you @ncacheer for a weekend that will last a lifetime!!” she shared on Instagram. Her posts often feature moments with her dad, including a sweet Valentine’s Day shoutout in 2022: “My Valentine
.”
