Matthew Morrison, a well-known actor and musician who gained fame mainly through his role as Will Schuester on ‘Glee,’ has decided to launch a masterclass program exclusively focusing on musical theatre. The actor not only revealed his new project but also shared his struggles with self-doubt and the process of building artistic confidence through social media, while inviting the next generation of performers to join his ‘Stagecraft’ course “Become a Triple Threat: The Art of Musical Storytelling.”

The announcement of the course was just one aspect of Morrison’s post. The content was a peek into the life of a long-time performer, and a not necessarily the beautiful side of it. He went straight to the core of every artist’s fear and put that to everybody: coming up on stage with a “heart thumping in your throat,” and with a question in your mind if you really do have that spot in the first place. He talked about how he was afraid someone would come from behind, tap him on the shoulder, and say, “wrap it up.” The performer was very open and honest, and his openness drew the audience in, so to speak, as if it were the other way round: the audience did not get to see a Broadway veteran but rather the real human artist who was under the stage lights.

That being said, this was not the end of the story because Morrison did not hang up at fear. He always raised a powerful argument for the early struggles being a form of unavoidable training. “Every stumble, every moment of doubt became part of the training that shaped me,” he directly addressed in a video that was released along with the post. This perspective changes insecurity from being a weakness to being one of the pieces of the puzzle necessary for a long-lasting and even successful career. He makes it very clear that the nerves don’t completely go away but rather one becomes adept at dealing with them.

He stated that his current motivation is quite different from the accumulation of accolades and instead is related to a deeper purpose. “It’s a chance to help you find your voice,” he commented, highlighting a desire to help people “clear the mist of self-doubt.” Morrison’s new module is likely to unravel the mystery of how to fuse singing, acting, and moving into one genuine expression of oneself. It is not only showing but also telling a story that is really engaging with an audience. “The spotlight is not something you wait for,” he concluded. “It is something you step into.”

The followers of Morrison reacted immediately and with very strong feelings. Many of them considered the sincerity of his message as the most powerful aspect. One user particularly noted the last words which had an impact on him and simply wrote, “I really like that last sentence ❤️.” Another comment described the post as “SO BEAUTIFUL AND INSPIRING!!! 🥺🌺🧡,” which perfectly reflected the wonderful positive atmosphere in the comment section.

Moreover, his post also served as a reminder of good old times and fun memories. One like-it-or-not ‘Glee’ fan expressed: “i really like this thanks mr schue,” and thus showed a connection between the respect of the actor as a person and the admiration of the character he played on screen. Support from another user, who was a choreographer Mia Michaels, was brief but sweet: “Love this so much!!! Love u.”

The announcement of the new masterclass course was so seamlessly interwoven with his personal introspection that at least one follower perceived it as a metaphorical reference and did not realize that it was meant to be taken literally. Their comment was, “I feel like this could be a masterclass.” Someone from the Stagecraft team quickly responded in the thread and clarified the situation by saying, “This IS a masterclass!!!” and also directing users to the webpage where they could enroll in the Musical Theater Essentials course taught by Morrison.

The post that introduced the course opened up not only discussions about the course content but also about Morrison’s other projects. One of his followers was eager to find out if there would be more collaborations with @greatamericanfamily and the question was, “Are you looking to work on more projects with @greatamericanfamily? I am a fan of ‘A Paris Christmas Waltz’.” This clearly shows that this one post not only reached but also connected with the fans on various levels—his teaching business, his acting career, and so forth.

A new trend of Matthew Morrison in masterclass education is nothing but the right path. A veteran artist, who also lent a hand in shaping the next generation of singers while on ‘Glee,’ is now utilizing that experience to create a program that deconstructs the art of singing, acting, and dancing.
