Mariah Carey Gets Dragged As Fans Debate Which R&B Artist Should Lose Their Entire Catalog

For now, the Internet has spoken loudly and picked a side: Mariah might find that she must pack. User spicebae ignited a huge debate with a single viral tweet: “One R&B woman and her entire discography has to go, who would you take out?” Answers came pouring in, some brutally honest, some downright funny, and mostly unanimous.

Mariah Carey – the legendary name that was, so to speak, love in five octaves and Christmas – might have gone through the chopping block at one point in time. “Mariah, see ya girly pop” came the bold shout-out from a user, and another chimed in, “Mariah her voice sound like she holding her nostrils I can’t.” Ouch. The critics moved on, some alleging that her catalog does not go well against modern R&B stars like SZA, Summer Walker, and Kehlani.

However, they did not set Mariah for the chopping block quite yet. Defenders clung to her. One opined: “Dang why y’all set up Mariah like that?” The other said, “All I know is that Summer is staying,” implying the newer artists may not be as deleterious as they are believed to be.

Kehlani was dragged, too: “Kehlani got some hits but she might have to see her way out, I fear,” aside from one straight spitting: “Kehlani easily has the worst catalog here.” Then others went to bat for her, meaning her emotional and vulnerable nature make her irreplaceable, at least with albums like Honey and Distraction.

Things got messy when the argument about R&B’s contention began. A crazy-ass soul lamented, “New R&B sucks! It’s basically copying rap,” with another chipping away, “R&B is not the same today at all so they can all pack their bags. Nobody is anticipating their music.” Harsh but not everything could be wrong there.

The one thing that could stingpoke is the fact that tastes differ in music. Public opinion never puts anyone safe. Whether you are Team Mariah, Team Kehlani, or just standing there for the sake of argument, one thing is for sure: This will never stop.

Things just got a little messier with then-added spicebae in a follow-up tweet that read: “Y’all said that one was too easy bet, now I got a harder one for y’all.” Round two is about to kick in, so fasten those seat belts!

At the end of the day, the real loser might be whoever has to explain to Mariah that Twitter just voted her off the island. Good luck with that.
