Lindsay Lohan now: Lindsay Lohan’s second act: How the former wild child turned her life around and made one of Hollywood’s biggest comebacks including her Hollywood return, family, and private life in Dubai | Explainer

Lindsay Lohan catapulted to international fame in 1998 when she starred in Walt Disney’s The Parent Trap.

Though she had some acting experience under her belt, it was her portrayal of long-lost twin sisters Hallie and Annie that put her on the map at just 12 years old.

The film, starring the late Natasha Richardson and Dennis Quaid, was a box office smash and saw Lohan play two characters at once.

She went on to become a millennial icon with roles in Life-Size in 2000 and Freaky Friday in 2003.

Of course, Lohan’s role in Mean Girls propelled her to the A-list, and to this day the film is still relevant and a classic.

The actress also launched a music career around that time, releasing catchy hits including Rumors.

From child star to ‘wild child’

As her career boomed, Lohan soon became a tabloid fixture and a socialite in the Hollywood scene, often seen partying with the likes of Paris Hilton and Britney Spears.

She also had some high-profile romances, including with Wilmer Valderrama and Samantha Ronson.

Lohan has reportedly been jailed five times and underwent various rehab stints due to struggles with addiction.

She soon took a break from the spotlight and created a new life for herself in Dubai.

This shift has since signalled the start of one of the most spectacular Hollywood comebacks ever seen.

    Her second act

It’s fair to say that Lohan, the daughter of Dina and Michael Lohan, is in her second act.

The actress, who reportedly has a net worth of $US2 million, has absolutely thrilled fans recently with her red carpet appearances for Freakier Friday, a sequel to the original starring Jamie Lee Curtis.

After moving to Dubai in 2014, marrying Bader Shammas in 2022 and starting a family, the star has thrilled fans with her return to acting in Netflix films Falling for Christmas, Irish Wish and Our Little Secret.

Lohan, now a mother, even had a fun cameo in the 2024 Mean Girls musical revival.

The actress has previously spoken about her move to Dubai and how good it was for her.

“Moving here was a fresh start,” she told Emirates Woman.

“You hear more about real current events rather than celebrity gossip, which I really appreciate.”

She also recently reflected on being tabloid fodder as a young star, telling The Sunday Times she has PTSD from the experience.

“I don’t ever want my family to experience being chased by the paparazzi the way I was,” she said.

“They were terrifying moments I had in my life – I have PTSD to the extreme from those things. The most invasive situations. Really scary.

“And I pray stuff like that never comes back. It’s not safe. It’s not fair.”

In the United Arab Emirates it is illegal to photograph someone, even in public, without their consent.

    A private, settled family life

In June last year, Lohan publicly paid tribute to her husband in a gushing Instagram post.

“I love you more than words can express! I am so grateful for you. You are the most amazing man, father, husband, son and brother,” she said.

“To all of the beautiful years filled with good health, happiness and love to come. I love you I love you I love you. Happy Birthday!”

“You have given our lives a whole new meaning, and we are grateful every single day. Here is to another year of cuddles, giggles, and magic. Me and Daddy love you more than words can say.”
