Lil Wayne’s ‘Tha Carter IV’ Makes Surprise Billboard Comeback After 6 Years

    -

Lil Wayne’s Album ‘Tha Carter IV,’ released back in 2011, is doing something quite odd: it has made a foray back into the Billboard 200 for the first time since 2018. I mean, a 13-year-old album sprang back into the limelight as if it had never really ever left. Thanks to a tweet from Chart Data for breaking the news, and we’ll just tell you that the people had thoughts.

But what is up with the timing? TikTok seems to have gotten in on the act. User Yogiflowz said that for months, the song “She Will” was trending on the app, calling it “one of the best rapper songs of all time.” Playboicarti786 replied, agreeing that Wayne went viral, and “every song there is a banger.” That’s Classic Wayne-in another 10 years, he’ll be dropped heat that remains relevant.

But not everyone was feeling the celebration. Things got spicy in replies. User ELardid dished out the salt: “Now bots emcees are clearly in their lane.” Ouch. Then came a massive debate over whether ‘Tha Carter V’ (Wayne’s 2018]why not) was being underrated or was really trash. To fierce retaliation from Shakespeare ✍🏾: “If you think Carter V is ass then you just old.” Bam! War was declared on those nostalgia-hogs!

Then Dreamville Festival had something to do with it. Jaye_de said Wayne’s performance there likely inflated streams, adding, “And for people saying how… It s because of Dreamville.” Yeah, that would work-dude steps on stage, crowd goes berserk, and everybody loops back to all of his old stuff.

Of course, distortions of random chaos make for a Twitter thread. User UncleAyyy dropped a bar from the album like it was a quote-tweet: “They never give you a chance, you gotta take chances. Your family tree… I will break branches.” Deep? Aggressive? Both? Meanwhile, WillTheReal33 spotted something crazy on the album cover: “Bruh I just realized if you look above Wayne’s eyebrow on the left it says ‘I am music’.” Mind. Blown.

And then we have a few hopefuls. StigerMr simply stated: “Carter 6 otw,” because, hey, if the fourth one is doing numbers, why not manifest the sixth?

To put it simply, Wayne’s reach is obviously indefatigable. Be it TikTok trends, festival performance, or bariness, ‘Tha Carter IV’ is fully alive and kicking today. Or really as ChapaWAChoppa quite succinctly put it: “One of the most influential album oat” (that is, “of all time” for those not in the know).

So if you haven’t had ‘Tha Carter IV’ on your rotation for a minute … well, now may just be the time. Just don’t call it a comeback; it never left.
