After growing up in Hollywood, Jamie Lee Curtis has no problem leaving the industry behind.
In fact, the Oscar winner—the daughter of the late Tony Curtis and Janet Leigh—revealed she’s been “self-retiring for 30 years,” only choosing roles that truly pique her interest.
“I have been prepping to get out, so that I don’t have to suffer the same as my family did,” Jamie Lee explained to The Guardian in an interview published July 26. “I want to leave the party before I’m no longer invited.”
She continued, “I witnessed my parents lose the very thing that gave them their fame and their life and their livelihood, when the industry rejected them at a certain age. I watched them reach incredible success and then have it slowly erode to where it was gone. And that’s very painful.”
Now 66, Jamie Lee considers herself to be an “old lady,” joking to the outlet, “I’m going to die soon.”
