Global pop megastar Ed Sheeran presses play on a brand new era today (April 4th) with the release of his brand new single ‘Azizam’.
Co-written and produced in collaboration with Ilya Salmanzadeh (Ariana Grande, Charli XCX, Ellie Goudling, Sam Smith), Johnny McDaid (Robbie Williams, Rag’n’Bone Man) and Savan Kotecha (One Direction, JLS), the hedonistic track serves as a call to action to live the moment “in between the dancing lights” on the dance-floor until the Sun rises.
With it’s title a Persian term of endearment that means “my dear” or “my beloved”, lyrically the song aims to reflect a unifying and symbolic return to joy, to light, to love and to fun, whilst it’s ambient production infuses Irish folk flavours with Persian inspired beats to great effect.
Commenting on life-affirming track, Sheeran says via a press release: “Even though it’s completely different to anything that I’ve ever done before, ‘Azizam’ feels familiar to me. I wanted to create a party atmosphere in a song and Ilya Salmanzadeh, who I worked with on the track, helped bring that to life. He was so inspiring to work with.”
In a new music video accompanying the singles release, Ed takes viewers along for the ride on his recent journey across the US (and a bit of the UK), as chronicled by director/videographer Liam Pethick.
Along with the previously stated surprise pop-ups, he takes a taxi to see the sights of New York and drives a vintage convertible through Los Angeles, making many stops along the way, including a visit to Ipswich Town FC – the singers favourite local football team.
