This week, Dua Lipa stepped out in Paris with her fiancé, Callum Turner, to enjoy some private time, but their night out quickly took a stressful turn due to a tense run-in with the paparazzi.
Online videos show Callum confronting someone outside of a French restaurant, telling them their behavior is “not okay.” The person said they were there for Canadian singer Tate McRae, but when Dua walked out of the restaurant, attention quickly shifted to her as a man excitedly yelled, “Hello, Dua!”
Dua immediately covered her face as paparazzi began snapping photos. Linking arms, she and Callum started walking away — only for photographers to begin following them. “No, no, no, we’re not doing this,” Dua said, stopping in her tracks, while Callum pleaded, “Stop.”
“No, just give us [a photo], and we’ll leave you alone,” one photographer said, as another begged for “just one picture.”
Dua firmly said, “No,” and asked not to be followed, but the photographers ignored her. “Dua, just give us one minute, and we’ll leave you alone,” the person said again.
They progressively became more aggressive, with one screaming at Dua, “Show your face!” But the singer stood her ground.
She and Callum turned and headed in the opposite direction, but that didn’t stop the paparazzi, who ran ahead of Dua in an attempt to get her picture. “Can you please go away,” Dua pleaded, while the person replied, “Give us some pictures, Dua.”
Still covering her face, Dua continued walking quickly, nearly running into a pole as she tried to escape the flashing lights, while a valet used their hat to help shield her. Eventually, the ordeal appears to end when the photographers realize they won’t get a good quality photo.
Viewers found the behavior absolutely abhorrent. “This is absolutely shameful,” one person wrote on X. “Both Callum and Dua told them repeatedly to stop, and they just start yelling?? What on earth are the French paparazzi even doing?”
“The audacity to say give us one minute and we will leave you alone,” another tweet said, while a different viewer called the behavior “pure harassment.”
“’just give us 1 minute and we’ll leave you alone’ what a terrifying sentence,” one tweet read.
Another commented, “This is actually exhausting to watch. They said no, multiple times, and still got swarmed and physically pushed.”
“This isn’t journalism. This is harassment with cameras,” someone else wrote. “They’re literally yelling at people to back off and still get swarmed. When does it stop being ‘part of the job’?”
People also noted how rare it was to see Dua pushing back. One viral tweet with over 40,000 likes said, “I’ve never seen her this angry before. They must’ve been following them for hours omg. She should’ve yelled at them harder wtf.”
Another agreed, “this is the only time in her 11+ years in the public eye I’ve EVER seen dua get mad. FUCK PAPARAZZI.”
Some viewers said the video gave them a new level of compassion for celebrities.
One said fame “looks unbearable.” Another agreed, tweeting, “Just because someone is famous doesn’t mean they no longer need peace and privacy. Imagine trying to walk, breathe, and live like a normal human being while cameras are constantly pushed into your face. That kind of pressure would be incredibly exhausting.”
“this HAS to stop,” one more added.
