Did Nico Harrison Screw Up Trading Luka Doncic To The Lakers

    -

Well, it really shook the basketball world upside down after a blockbuster trade sent Luka Doncic from the Mavericks to the Lakers. Even The Volume fueled further debate with the question: Did Maverick’s GM Nico Harrison make the right move? People just have, let’s say, OPINIONS.

Colin Cowherd and Jason Timpf pondered on this outrageous trade in their show, conjuring up hypotheticals as to whether this would play out- for Luka gets into shape; meshes with LeBron; and the Lakers build properly around him. Unfortunately, most of the people do not seem to buy into those big ifs as the replies to that tweet show.

Donboydeluxe was the first skeptic who made things worse: “How many times have we heard ‘IF he gets in shape’ over the years? And now I’m going to guess… living in Los Angeles will get him in shape. LeBron will get him in shape. Adam Silver will get him in shape. Jeezzz.” Oof. The sarcasm cuts really deep, especially when Luka has had to get into shape since his first year.

‘Poniistrash’ matched the heat with: “If u cant get and stay in shape at 26, just how are u gonna do it as u get older?” Meanwhile, ‘thatdude50000’ just got to the point calling him lazy: “Luka isn’t suddenly going to get in shape. If he wanted to be would have already.” This is fat-shaming pure, but this is Sports Twitter, where by now subtlety has died.

Luka’s trade to the lakers will put them into a position to have at most a top 3 and worst top 5 player in the league for the next 10-12 years”, “demonbain_24” defended himself on such an attack. But what a claim; ‘poniistrash’ was like, “10 to 12 years? Yeah right. In 5 years, he’ll weigh 3 bills.” Expect such kind of wild disrespect.

But some were reporting about logistics. “A JOKE,” is what ‘Welcome2AJungle’ called the return package before he went ham decrying the whole league as corrupt, while ‘JWho19’ added that the Mavs hung around waiting for Luka to level up, and it never happened. Then there’s ‘somanydummies’ with the best nickname roast: “Depends if Luka comes back next season as Luka Donfit or Luka Donut.” BRUH.

Others, however, were quite straightforward with it. ‘Adam36385336’ said “Fuck no!” And ‘billhurst’s was a classic “No.” Meanwhile, ‘G_the_Greek’ went for “smoking crack” for everyone who was “-ing” in the deal which fair enough.

Most hilariously, multiple people dragged Colin Cowherd himself. ‘gametimeG15’ reminded everyone “Remember when Colin said LeBron would be trash after being 35 years old?” and ‘G_the_Greek’ mocked his name as “Colon Cowturd.” Never change, Twitter.

Multiple arguments will arise for years about this trade: Was it a pan-galaxy-brain move to really lock up LAs future? Or was it a panic trade for a guy who’s more and more becoming a question mark on his work ethic? Replies thus far support no one agreeing but everyone having jokes. Surely, if Luka shows up to camp shredded, about half of these tweets are going to age like milk. If he doesn’t? Well… Luka Donut memes incoming.

But the real winner in this case is Twitter. This situation is not going to stop anytime soon. Everywhere, the people love it or hate it, but buckle up: it gets messier from here on in. That is what makes all the sports talk beautiful. Because people really care in the best worst way possible. Now excuse me while I go check to see if Luka’s posted any offseason workout videos yet…
