Deadloch Season 2: ‘I met a Hemsworth and I was not expecting this – as the new addition to Deadloch’s sweaty second season’

    -

EXCLUSIVE: When you think of famous siblings, you think of the Hemsworth brothers, right?

Chris is a Marvel megastar, Liam is Hunger Games royalty, and oldest brother Luke shines in Season 2 of brilliant Aussie crime-comedy Deadloch (which is a must-see).

So, of course I was nervous to meet Luke under the bright lights of an Australian premiere. But I was not expecting this.

Compared to his brothers, Luke, 45, isn’t exactly the one in the spotlight.

But he certainly stole the show on the red carpet of Deadloch‘s Season 2 Sydney premiere.

From the minute we met, Hemsworth was cracking jokes left, right and centre about his brothers who would rather be “at home eating Doritos” than supporting him that night.

When speaking of acting he said, he likes to think he taught Chris “how to crawl, how to walk, how to run. Being on set with him was no different”.

The star was talking about his scene-stealing cameo in Marvel‘s Thor: Love And Thunder where he played ‘actor Thor’, alongside brother Chris Hemsworth.

“To be honest he was like, please be in it,” Luke cheekily replied.

“I was like, alright, I’ll come to your wee little set and I’ll try to do some real acting as opposed to what you do.”

That natural cheek and charming nonchalance is why Luke made the perfect addition to Prime Video’s award-winning Aussie series.

Playing cocky croc-wrangler Jason Wade, he joins Kate Box and Madeleine Sami as detectives Dulcie Collins and Eddie Redcliffe in Deadloch‘s deadlier, sweatier and hilarious second season.

The next day, I joined Luke in a more formal interview setting. When asked how he felt about joining an incredible cast and series, his answer was just as tongue-in-cheek.

“It feels great to be retuning,” he answered before going along with Madeleine Sami’s rouge response that he played “a stapler” in the first season.

“Such good stapling work,” he smiled as he tried his best to keep a serious face.

But of course, he broke out laughing.

The banter between Luke, Kate and Madeleine was unmatched, and I probably should have expected it coming from the cast of a series that’s equally unhinged (in the best way possible).

“This is day in day out,” Luke said as he tried to compose himself. “It’s constant madness, it was so much fun.”

After all, it’s the energy, chaos and unexpected zingers that make Deadloch so well-loved and internationally recognised as the Emmy-nominated comedy it is.

But that said, I did see a softer side to Luke Hemsworth.

The new season plunges viewers into the hot, humid depths of Australia’s Top End – where the crocs are deadly and the secrets run deep.

When speaking of the Aussie set location, he had nothing but fond things to say. Especially when he and his brothers grew up in the Top End at a very young age.

“I grew up in the middle of Arnhem land,” he revealed. “My family lives there, still. My auntie and my cousins still live there.”

While fond, Luke said the memories there are “fleeting”.

”I was pretty young, but this [looking at the set] just evokes the… red dirt, you can smell the heat,” he recalled.

“I love the place, I think it’s a phenomenal place and it is like any place in the world, really.”

All six episodes of Deadloch Season 2 are out now on Prime Video.
