Plaza and Baena had separated four months before he died.

Who is Christopher Abbott?
The 40-year-old American actor is best known for his role as Charlie Dattolo in hit TV series Girls.
He starred in the first two seasons of the HBO drama, playing the love interest for lead character Marnie Michaels (played by Allison Williams).
He famously returned for a single episode in Season 5 that Williams labelled “the best episode of TV ever made”.
The 10th anniversary of the 2016 episode, titled Panic in Central Park, was celebrated by the actress and fans last week.
It turned out to be a big week for Abbott, as news of his and Plaza’s pregnancy was also announced.
“On the anniversary of panic in central park is crazy😭😭😭,” one fan commented under a PEOPLE Instagram post.
Plaza is known for her role as April Ludgate in Stan-steaming comedy series Parks and Recreation.
“Charlie and April… love this pairing. So happy for them!” another fan wrote.
After a few TV stints, Abbott made his feature film debut in 2011 in psychological thriller Martha Marcy May Marlene alongside Sarah Paulson and Elizabeth Olsen.
With over 40 film and TV credits to his name, Abbott earned a Golden Globe nomination in 2019 for his role as Capt. John Yossarian in TV mini series Catch-22.
He lost to Russell Crowe for Best Actor in a miniseries or TV film.
Most recently, Abbott starred alongside recurring co-star Amanda Seyfried in musical drama The Testament of Ann Lee (2025).
How long have Aubrey Plaza and Christopher Abbott been together?
It’s not clear when Plaza and Abbott began dating, noting Plaza was previously married from 2021 to late 2024.
The pair met on set in 2020 and have collaborated on projects over the years.
In December 2020, the pair first worked together in comedy-thriller Black Bear.
The twisted love story turns into an intertwined love triangle between a couple and an out-of-town guest (Plaza) that soon turns dangerous, calculated and manipulated.
In October 2023, Plaza and Abbott reunited to play “messed-up people in a messed-up love story” as written by Vulture in off-Broadway revival of Danny and the Deep Blue Sea.
The two-person Sam Rockwell production ran for three months in New York and marked Plaza’s theatrical debut.
In a joint interview with The New York Times published in September 2023, Plaza called Abbott “the best recipe for me for a scene partner”.
“We’re both unafraid to be ugly and weird and strange,” agreed Abbott, who started his Off-Broadway career 15 years earlier.
Previously, Plaza was married to successful screenwriter and director Jeff Baena, who died at age 47 in January 2025. The couple married in 2021 and had separated in late 2024, four months before his death.
