Bellamy has come out with a wild story a pickup game of basketball that almost caused full-scale brawling. The Internet is feasting on it. Such a story is extremely entertaining, as one would expect from Bellamy, a comedian and actor. A clip presents Bellamy animatedly describing how what was supposed to be a little game quickly turned into one of many heated exchanges between two players, reiterating that trash talk stands in a league of its own in basketball.

The story goes: On the court, the side with Bellamy was winning, with the big man on the team dunking on everyone. Things got dark as the opposing guard, frustrated after being shut down time and again, tried to shove away the big man-which was not to his liking, and ensuing verbal exchanges somehow reverted to the same phrase for the umpteenth time: “You soft as fuck.” Bellamy tried to interfere, but all he watched was the verbal exchange almost going down to fist implement, until at the last moment, everyone came to their senses.
The comments were as hilarious as the story itself. In one, a user reminisced about playing with Bellamy years ago: According to him, Bellamy always finds himself in the middle of some kind of drama on the hardwood. Another reminisced about how these heated exchanges are so common in pickup games: a guy gets angry but moves on by the following day. One user went crazy about a second installment while others just laughed at Bellamy’s humorous delivery.
There are some gems worth singing about. One suggested the account reminded him of a tale Bellamy once told arrayed around LL Cool J and Jamie Foxx, while another suggested that the trash talk ought to be “officially recognized” by ESPN as an official part of the game. Apart from that, there was the question as to whether it was a “50 and up” league, which brought a few chuckles considering Bellamy’s age.
What makes this story exceedingly relatable is that pickup basketball culture is, in essence, universal- that kind of guy who feels the need to blast everybody else’s ears off if somebody misses a shot exists everywhere. Bellamy’s recounting really brings that out, mixing in hilarious moments with the tension so common on streetball courts.
Now, naturally, folks want some more. Whether it’s another outlandish tale from the court or Bellamy’s next stand-up, one thing all of them agree on is that no one tells a basketball story quite like Bellamy. The guy can probably put together a Netflix show just about free-throw line bickering.
