Amy Schumer is looking to the humorous side.
Amid the comedian’s breakup from estranged husband Chris Fischer—with whom she shares 6-year-old son Gene—Amy shared insight into how her family has traditionally navigated hardship.
“When things are at their absolute worst is when my family is the funniest,” she said in a Dec. 21 video shared to Instagram. “Just when we hit rock bottom is when we can laugh the hardest.”
She added in the video, which was honoring the final night of Hanukkah, “I think that that’s not unique to me, I think that’s like a Jewish characteristic.”
And in a separate post, Amy hinted at another way she navigates hardship: by leaning on her community.
“My life is filled with the souls of women I love,” read the message Amy posted to her Dec. 21 Instagram Story, written by author Hannah Rosenberg. “Who show up on my doorstep to celebrate and grieve, who stand up for me when I put myself down.”
The post continued, “If you have these women, remember: the soulmate is a wonderful thought but look how beautiful these love stories are. Look how they make you full.”
