Indian stock markets were trading higher up on Monday as buying interest in State Bank of India (SBI), contours of the India-US trade deal, along with solid global cues, lifted sentiment. On Friday, India and the US released a joint statement, outlining a framework for the interim trade agreement (ITA) following the announcement of the trade deal earlier last week.
The BSE Sensex index jumped by 485.35 points or 0.58 per cent to close at 84,065.75, while the NSE Nifty rose by 173.60 points or 0.68 per cent to settle at 25,867.30.
SBI shares rallied 7.46 per cent, followed by Shriram Finance, Samvardhana Motherson International, Varun Beverage, Info Edge (India), Zydus Lifesciences, Lodha Developers, Hindustan Zinc, Grasim Industries, and Solar Industries India. These shares were the top gainers among the Nifty 100.
On the downside, REC, Max Healthcare Institute, Siemens, Bosch, Siemens Energy India, Britannia Industries, and PFC were the top losers in the Nifty 100 today, falling up to 3.38%.
In the broader markets, the Nifty MidCap index gained 1.57 per cent, and the Nifty SmallCap index added 2.55 per cent.
Among sectors, the Nifty PSU Bank index gained 3.34 per cent, while the Nifty Realty added 2.61 per cent, and the Nifty Metal index 1.56 per cent. The Nifty Media rose 4.37 per cent.
Global Cues
Asian markets rallied on Monday, led by a sharp surge in Japanese equities after Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi secured a historic election victory. Japan’s Nikkei 225 jumped 4.5 per cent, while South Korea’s KOSPI advanced 4.4 per cent. Australia’s S&P/ASX 200 also gained 1.57 per cent.
On Friday, US markets rebounded after a volatile week for technology stocks, as investors reassessed concerns around AI disruption and heavy spending by major tech firms. The S&P 500 climbed 1.97 per cent, the Nasdaq Composite rose 2.18 per cent, and the Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 2.47 per cent.
