Sensex Today: Indian equity markets opened on a firm note on Thursday, supported by renewed buying in beaten-down IT stocks.
At 9:50 AM, the Sensex was up 230 points at 82,507, and the NSE Nifty 50 index quoted 70 points or 0.3 per cent higher at 25,552.
IT stocks led the rally among the Sensex constituents, with Tech Mahindra, Infosys, HCL Technologies, and Tata Consultancy Services gaining between 1 and 2 per cent each. Other notable movers included Bharat Electronics, Maruti Suzuki, and Trent.
In the broader market, the BSE MidCap and BSE SmallCap indices were up around 0.3 per cent each, while the BSE IT index climbed 1.4 per cent.
Global Markets
Across Asia-Pacific, markets advanced in line with overnight strength on Wall Street. Japan’s Nikkei 225 climbed 1.1 per cent to scale another record high, buoyed by gains in technology stocks.
South Korea’s KOSPI rose 1.65 per cent, while Australia’s S&P/ASX 200 advanced 0.8 per cent, also touching a record high in early trade.
In the US, Wall Street indices ended higher overnight, led by strong performances in major technology names such as Nvidia and Oracle. The broader S&P 500 gained 0.81 per cent, while the tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite surged 1.26 per cent. The Dow Jones Industrial Average also closed 0.63 per cent higher.
