Leading card issuers, including SBI Card, HDFC Bank and ICICI Bank, have revised debit and credit card benefits as rising air travel demand has led to a surge in airport lounge usage.

All three issuers have announced changes to their card programmes, affecting areas such as spend thresholds, reward structures, fees and the way complimentary lounge access is provided. With the new rules being implemented on different dates in January, cardholders are advised to familiarise themselves with the updated terms, especially as these changes could impact air travel experiences.

ICICI Bank credit card changes from January 15, 2026

ICICI Bank has rolled out a fresh set of changes to select credit cards, covering rewards, benefits and certain charges. The updates also include new fees for specific transaction categories. Cardholders should assess how the revisions may influence reward accumulation, entertainment privileges, foreign currency spending and routine payment behaviour. The revised structure comes into effect from January 15, 2026.

SBI Card expands domestic airport lounge network

SBI Card has strengthened its domestic airport lounge access programme, effective January 10, 2026, offering access to a wider network of lounges across Indian airports. The lounges are grouped under Set A and Set B, with eligibility determined by the specific SBI credit card variant held by the customer.

Currently, lounge entry for SBI Card users is permitted only after the card is validated on the lounge’s POS machine. The revised terms apply to cards with annual fees of Rs 1,499 and Rs 2,999, where lounge access is facilitated through network partners.

HDFC Bank revises debit card lounge access norms

HDFC Bank has also modified the spend requirement for debit card customers seeking complimentary airport lounge access. Effective January 10, 2026, the bank has doubled the spend threshold and introduced a voucher-based mechanism under its Debit Cards Lounge Programme. The new system is aimed at streamlining access and improving convenience for debit card users.

With lounge access becoming an increasingly valued benefit for frequent flyers, these updates underscore the need for cardholders to review eligibility criteria, spending requirements and access processes before planning their next trip.
