Govt Clears Refund Plan for EPFO Accounts with Balance Up to Rs 1,000

Those EPF subscribers whose accounts become inoperative after failing to submit regular payments and having balance of up to one thousand rupees will get their money back. This relief comes as the Ministry of Labour and Employment has decided to refund money to the subscribers.

The government’s initiative comes as there are more than six lakh inoperative accounts that have a balance of up to one thousand rupees.

    What Subscribers Have To Do

Good news is that subscribers don’t have to do anything to get their money back. The ministry said that the amount will be directly send back to the subscribers’ Aadhaar-linked bank account.

There will not be required to file any claim or submit documents to initiate the process.

    What’s The Limit?

Subscribers, however, need to know that there’s a limit of money coming back to the account – Rs 1000. Even if a subscriber, with an inoperative account having money over Rs 1000, it won’t come back directly under the government’s initiative.

An EPFO account becomes inactive if there has been no contribution or transaction for three consecutive years. However, interest continues to be credited as per rules.

How To Check If Your EPF Account Is Inoperative

Subscribers can easily check the status of their account through the Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation portal. Here’s how:
