Gracie Abrams record label Interscope CEO, John Janick, rejected harsh claims against the music icon.
The That’s So True singer, daughter of filmmaker J.J Abrams and television producer Katie McGrath, has been accused of being a ‘nepo baby.’
However, Janick dismissed he claims that her Hollywood ties played a part in being signed to the label.
“She’s done this on her own without taking any of the shortcuts,” Janick told Billboard in an interview. “It was purely signing her based on how she was as a person and a songwriter. That’s what we were interested in.”
The Close To You songstress signed with Interscope in 2019 and has made her mark in music since then.
The Grammy-nominated artist has released her debut EP, Minor in 2020, followed by This Is What It Feels Like in 2021.
In 2023 the artist released her first studio album, titled Good Raddiance, and in the following next year her second album titled, The Secret of Us.
Janick acknowledged “big breakout moment,” noting that there “was no skipping of steps or taking shortcuts.”
He said that she never wanted to “rush anything and wanted to make sure people heard her music in the right way.”
Currently, Abrams is on her The Secret of Us Tour. She’ll be soon performing at Bangkok, Thailand on April 19 and then will head to Australia and New Zealand.
