The BSE Sensex and NSE Nifty began the final trading session of the financial year 2024-25 (FY25) on a mixed note

Sensex Today: Benchmark Indian equity indices ended the last trading session of the current fiscal year (FY25) in the red on Friday. The 30-share Sensex lost 191.51 points, or 0.25%, closing at 77,414.92.
Similarly, the NSE Nifty50 closed lower at 23,519.35, down 72.60 points, or 0.31%, from its previous close.
Broader market indices also ended in the negative. The Nifty Midcap100 and Nifty Smallcap100 indices recorded losses of 0.32% and 0.15%, respectively.
Despite the decline on Friday, both Sensex and Nifty50 ended FY25 with gains of nearly 5% each. The Nifty Midcap100 and Nifty Smallcap100 indices, however, posted stronger gains of 5.4% and 7.48%, respectively, for the fiscal year.
On Friday, financial services, FMCG, private banks, and select healthcare stocks were the notable gainers, while all other sectoral indices on the NSE closed lower. The Nifty IT index saw the largest decline, falling 1.76%, weighed down by losses in Wipro, LTIMindtree, HCL Tech, and Persistent Systems.
The India VIX, which gauges market volatility, rose by 4.37%, closing at 12.72 points on Friday.
Indian markets will remain closed on Monday, March 31, for Eid festivities, and trading will resume on Tuesday, April 1, 2025.
Global Cues
Global markets showed mixed performance, with Asian markets fluctuating due to ongoing uncertainty surrounding the tariff threats from US President Donald Trump. The ASX 200 saw a modest gain of 0.36 per cent, while Japan’s Nikkei and Topix both fell over 2 per cent. South Korea’s Kospi also dropped 1.31 per cent.
In the US, all three major stock indexes ended lower overnight. The Dow Jones dropped 0.37 per cent. The S&P 500 declined 0.33 per cent, while the Nasdaq fell 0.53 per cent.
