Indian benchmark indices, Sensex and Nifty, are expected to open on a flat note on Wednesday amid mixed global cues
Indian equity markets
Sensex Today: Indian benchmark indices opened flat with a slight negative bias on Wednesday, mirroring the mixed sentiment across global markets. With no major domestic triggers and the Q2FY26 earnings season behind them, both indices continued to trade in a narrow range.
The BSE Sensex slipped 81 points, or 0.10 per cent, to 84,592 in early deals, while the Nifty50 inched down 34 points, or 0.13 per cent, to 25,877.
Tata Motors PV, NTPC, Bajaj Finserv, Eternal, Sun Pharma, and Adani Ports were among the top laggards on the Sensex. Meanwhile, HUL, Infosys, TCS, Tata Steel, Tech Mahindra, and Trent helped cushion the downside.
Broader markets were also subdued, with the Nifty MidCap index down 0.06 per cent and the Nifty SmallCap index lower by 0.23 per cent.
Among sectoral indices, Nifty IT was the sole gainer, rising 0.62 per cent. In contrast, Nifty Realty emerged as the biggest loser, falling 0.5 per cent.
Global Cues
Asian markets were trading mixed. Japan’s Nikkei gained 0.67 per cent, China’s CSI 300 rose 0.38 per cent, and Hong Kong’s Hang Seng edged up 0.09 per cent. In contrast, South Korea’s KOSPI slipped 0.46 per cent.
Overnight in the US, major indices closed lower as technology stocks continued to retreat on worries about stretched valuations in AI-linked names. The Dow Jones fell 1.07 per cent, the S&P 500 dropped 0.83 per cent, and the Nasdaq declined 1.21 per cent. Investor caution also grew ahead of quarterly results from AI bellwether Nvidia, scheduled to be released after the closing bell.
