IT major Infosys, which recently introduced a policy mandating employees to work from office (WFO) at least 10 days a month, has issued a clarification on the term “system intervention” in its new work from home (WFH) policy. It said additional days of work from home will require managerial approval, according to an Economic Times report.

While announcing the 10-day WFO policy, Infosys’s unit heads had conveyed to their teammates that a “system intervention” will be triggered if an employee works from office less than 10 days. It led to concerns among the employees that their leave will be deducted if they work from office less than the mandated 10 days.

Functional heads at Infosys last week informed their teammates about the company’s latest WFO policy requiring employees to be present at their base office for at least 10 days a month, effective March 10.

According to ET, the app which Infosys employees use for attendance will no longer approve WFH requests by “default” and the employees working from home beyond the 10-day WFO policy will need managerial approval.

The app displays the number of WFH days available for the month and the days it already used up and the balance available.

According to the ET report, additional WFH days will be shown as “exception” and the employee will need an approval from his or her manager to get them regularised.

Narayana Murthy-led Infosys has about 3,23,000 employees.

“Managers now enjoy the discretion to approval or deny a (regularisation) request. A lot will also depend on the relationship between an employee and his manager,” said an Infosys employee cited by ET.

Infosys’ 10-Day Work From Office Policy

“Starting March 10, 2025, system interventions will be implemented to limit the number of work-from-home days that can be applied each month. These measures are designed to ensure compliance with the new hybrid work requirements while maintaining flexibility for employees,” according to a WFO email sent last week by Infosys functional heads to their teammates.

“As you know, our hybrid work model expects employees to work from the office for at least 10 days a month, or as per business requirements, whichever is higher,” the email added.
