Bank Strike Today: With routine transactions & business operations at stake, many customers are seeking clarity on possible disruptions

Bank holiday today
Bharat Bandh on February 12, 2026: Major bank unions have called for a nationwide strike on February 12, 2026, prompting customers to check whether bank branches will function as usual. With routine transactions and business operations at stake, many account holders are seeking clarity on possible disruptions.
Here’s what leading public sector banks have said:
State Bank of India (SBI) stated that it has made necessary arrangements to ensure normal operations at its branches and offices. However, it cautioned that work may be impacted to a limited extent if the strike proceeds.
Bank of Baroda (BoB), in a communication to the BSE, said it is taking all necessary steps to ensure smooth functioning. Still, it warned that operations at branches and offices could be affected if the strike materialises.
UCO Bank, in a similar BSE filing, noted that while it is making efforts to maintain smooth operations, branch functioning may be disrupted in the event of the strike.
Which Unions Are Behind the Strike?
The strike call has been given by major bank associations, including the All India Bank Employees’ Association (AIBEA), All India Bank Officers Association (AIBOA), and Bank Employees Federation of India (BEFI). The action is backed by 10 Central Trade Unions (CTUs).
The protest is aimed at opposing the four new Labour Codes notified by the government in November 2025, which replace 29 existing labour laws. Unions argue that the new codes are anti-worker and impose stricter conditions for trade union registration. They have also reiterated their long-standing demand for a five-day work week and improved work-life balance.
Are Banks Open on February 12?
So far, neither the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) nor any major bank has declared February 12, 2026, as a holiday. Banks are therefore scheduled to remain open.
However, given the strike call, some operational disruptions at branches cannot be ruled out. Customers are advised to plan their visits and transactions accordingly, especially for time-sensitive work.
