After the tragic crash of Air India Flight 171 near the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport, budget carrier IndiGo on Thursday issued a travel advisory alerting passengers to operational disruptions stemming from the incident.

In a post shared on X, the airline informed about the runway restrictions currently in place at Ahmedabad Airport, which have impacted several scheduled flights.

“Following the incident near Ahmedabad Airport and the resulting runway restrictions, flight operations are impacted,” IndiGo said in its statement.

It said if your flight is impacted, you may rebook or claim a full refund via its website. “Our teams remain on standby across all channels to support you.”

The airline also expressed grief on the crash incident saying, “Our thoughts are with the families of those affected. We seek your kind understanding, as these are truly challenging times for everyone.”

A London-bound Air India plane carrying 242 passengers and crew crashed moments after taking off from the Ahmedabad airport on Thursday afternoon. Several casualties were feared. The Boeing aircraft, which could be seen losing altitude quickly, crashed in Meghaninagar area near the Ahmedabad international airport around 2 pm.

Thick black smoke was seen rising near the Meghani Nagar area adjacent to the airport, prompting an immediate emergency response.

Airport operations in the city were temporarily suspended.

According to Air India, the ill-fated Air India flight from Ahmedabad to Gatwick had 169 Indians, 53 British, and one Canadian national on-board.

There was no official estimate of those killed or injured. There were fears that some in Meghaninagar could be among those who lost their lives.

Many of those injured were taken to the city civil hospital nearby.
