The number of billionaires in India has increased to 200 this year as compared to 169 last year, according to the latest ‘Forbes World’s Billionaires List 2024’
India added 25 new billionaires this year, increasing the total number of billionaires in the country to 200 as compared to 169 last year, according to the latest ‘Forbes World’s Billionaires List 2024′. The combined wealth of these Indians stands at $954 billion, which is 41 per cent higher as compared with $675 billion last year.
Among Indians, Reliance Industries Ltd (RIL) CMD Mukesh Ambani topped the billionaires’ list with a total networth of $116 billion, followed by Gautam Adani ($84 billion), Shiv Nadar ($36.9 billion), Savitri Jindal & Family ($33.5 billion), and Dilip Shanghvi ($26.7 billion).
Mukesh Ambani is the only Indian in the top-10 list, at 9th rank globally.
Currently, there are more billionaires than ever — 2,781 in all, 141 more than last year and 26 more than the record set in 2021. They are richer than ever, worth $14.2 trillion in aggregate, up by $2 trillion from 2023 and $1.1 trillion above the previous record, also set in 2021, according to the ‘Forbes World’s Billionaires List 2024: The Top 200′.
“India, which has 200 billionaires (also a record), ranks third,” it said.
Two-thirds of the list’s members are worth more than a year ago; only one fourth are poorer. Much of the gains come from the top 20, who added a combined $700 billion in wealth since 2023, and from the U.S., which now boasts a record 813 billionaires worth a combined $5.7 trillion, according to the Forbes’ report.
“China remains second, with 473 (including Hong Kong) worth $1.7 trillion, despite weak consumer spending and a real estate bust that helped wipe out some $300 billion in wealth,” it said.

Bernard Arnault & family, with a total networth of $233 billion, topped the richest list 2024 globally, followed by Elon Musk ($195 billion), Jeff Bezos ($194 billion), Mark Zuckerberg ($177 billion), Larry Ellison ($114 billion), Warren Buffett ($133 billion), Bill Gates ($128 billion), Steve Ballmer ($121 billion), Mukesh Ambani ($116 billion), and Larry Page ($114 billion).
