Disney+ has confirmed that its acclaimed drama Rivals has been renewed for a third season, with twelve new episodes on the way. The announcement arrives ahead of the series’ second season, which returns with its remaining episodes this November.
The International Emmy and BAFTA Award-winning series, produced by Happy Prince (part of ITV Studios), is adapted from Dame Jilly Cooper’s beloved Rutshire Chronicles novels. Since its debut, Rivals has built a devoted audience thanks to its blend of sharp humour, high-society scandal, and interwoven romantic and political entanglements.
Season three will continue to explore the fallout from the explosive revelations of Season Two, with the series’ signature world of wealth, ambition, and betrayal growing even more volatile. According to the series’ official synopsis, shifting alliances, rekindled relationships, and newly exposed secrets will push familiar rivalries to new extremes, as personal and professional stakes continue to rise.
In the upcoming season, nothing remains buried for long. New romances emerge, old flames reignite, and long-simmering tensions resurface in a world where power and desire are constantly in flux – and where nearly every character has something to lose.
Meanwhile, Season Two will conclude its run later this year, with a second batch of six episodes set to premiere in November on Disney+ in the U.K. and internationally, as well as on Hulu in the United States. The first half of Season Two premiered in May and quickly became Disney+’s biggest EMEA original launch in the U.K. and Ireland, underscoring the show’s growing global momentum.
Lee Mason, Vice-President, Scripted, Disney+ EMEA, commented: “The phenomenal response to Rivals is a credit to the bold, irreverent and endlessly entertaining world created by Dame Jilly Cooper, our cast, creative team and production partners at Happy Prince. We’re delighted to be bringing audiences a third season on Disney+/Hulu. Expect more ambition, more romance, more rivalries and, of course, more scandal as we return to Rutshire for another irresistible chapter.”
With Dominic Treadwell-Collins, Chief Creative Officer of Happy Prince and Alexander Lamb, Creative Director of Happy Prince adding: “We’ve been delighted and overwhelmed by the audience’s response to season two of Rivals – testament to the hard work from everyone working on Rivals both on and off screen. Our one sadness is that Jilly didn’t get to witness the love for season two. But she’s still very much with us in sprit and would be so delighted that season three has been green lit. We’re so thrilled to continue to work with Disney as we dive deeper into the Rutshire Chronicles and expand the Cooperverse even further.”
With its mix of period glamour, biting satire, and high-stakes interpersonal drama, Rivals continues to cement itself as one of Disney+’s standout scripted successes – and the story is clearly far from finished.
