If you haven’t yet watched The Comeback, now is the time. The series finale aired on Sunday, May 10, which means all three seasons are now available to stream on HBO Max.
We chatted with the cast before this season’s premiere at SXSW. In addition to doing our ever popular Texas This or That challenge, we also took a minute to talk about the 90s. The main character, Valerie Cherish (played by Lisa Kudrow) was a sitcom star in the 90s who’s continuously reinventing herself, hence the title, The Comeback. So, we asked each cast member if they could bring back one thing from the 90s, what would it be?
Let’s start with Kudrow. Initially, she wasn’t sure of a response, but then it came to her. “Jokes. Remember?” she said. “You were allowed to say things and it was just a joke so it was OK.”
Ella Stiller may not have been around in the 90s, but her parents sure were. In case you aren’t aware, she’s the daughter of Ben Stiller and Christine Taylor. “My parents were all about the 90s,” she said. “The talk about the 90s all the time. It sounds like it was just fun!” She went on to say she likes the hairstyles of the 90s.
Speaking of hairstyles, Damian Young, who plays Kudrow’s husband on the show, said he would like to ring back his hair. Co-star Jack O’Brien said the same.
But it was Dan Bucatinsky that had the best answer. He said, Friends. “Am I allowed to say that,” he asked. We couldn’t pass up the chance to ask him about his favorite friend – besides Phoebe, of course. His answer: Monica.
