Shakira made history on Saturday, May 2, by performing in front of 2.5 million people on the Copacabana beach in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
Following her historic performance, the 49-year-old singer took to her Instagram handle to share a special message for her fans.
“I couldn’t sleep. Too much emotion,” she began the lengthy note. “What happened last night in Rio was unforgettable and chilling. Two and a half million people were there; together we can recognize the power of music in all of us.”
The Waka Waka hitmaker further penned, “Even though it was a difficult day for many of us, we went out to celebrate life as it is, with its successes and imperfections.”
“The beauty of Copacabana reminds us what truly matters, and the secret is to be present, to appreciate what is before our eyes. To contemplate the sea, the beach, the mountains, to feel the sun on our skin, the breeze. Because that’s what we’re made of,” she continued. “And that was the message Latin America gave to the world last night: it’s simple to be happy. And Rio reminds us of that like no other place in the world.”
Shakira also thanked her “tireless team and the thousands of people who worked day and night on this production, incorporating many difficult changes to implement.”
“And to my fans who traveled from other countries or cities in Brazil to be there, making history with me and, above all, making me feel that last night those two and a half million souls are my family,” she wrote.
Concluding the post, Shakira added, “Thank you, Brazil. I love you!”
