Deontay Wilder called out for blockbuster all-American heavyweight fight

    -

Deontay Wilder is on the lookout for a major fight after securing consecutive victories and now ‘The Bronze Bomber’ has been called out for a fight with a fellow American which could develop massive interest in the US.

After a low-profile triumph over Tyrrell Herndon, Wilder returned to fight in the United Kingdom for a second time in his career earlier this month, where he pulled off the win to spoil what was believed to be Derek Chisora’s final career outing.

Since then, Wilder has been linked to a clash with Anthony Joshua, but ‘AJ’ instead seems poised for a long-awaited scrap with domestic rival Tyson Fury. However, Wilder could be set for a similar grudge match clash with a countryman.

Speaking to FightHype, Matchroom promoter Eddie Hearn revealed that he is targeting a fight between Wilder and Jarrell Miller, who was victorious against Lenier Pero in his Matchroom debut on Saturday night.

“I want him to fight Deontay Wilder. Two American fighters, it would be a brilliant build-up, the styles, the personalities and it’s a big fight at MSG [Madison Square Garden] or Barclays Center.

“I think [that Miller would be ready for that fight by] June/July. He didn’t really take a lot of punishment in there tonight, he trained hard but you don’t want Jarrell Miller to be out of the ring for too long.

“He will be back in the gym, away from the restaurants, and keeping going.”

Wilder has previously stated that he will not fight Miller because ‘The Big Baby’ is too disrespectful but, if the financial incentive is representative of how big Hearn believes this fight could become, the mind of the former WBC champion may be changed.
