The Toronto Maple Leafs have a clear roadmap following the dismissal of Brad Treliving as general manager, an NHL insider recently revealed.

According to Elliotte Friedman, Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment president Keith Pelley apparently wants to hire just one person to oversee hockey operations.

It is worth recalling that a year ago, Brendan Shanahan was removed from his role as president of hockey operations, meaning that following Treliving’s departure, two vacancies in the Toronto franchise’s front office were being discussed.

“What I can tell you right now is that, No. 1, I think they’re starting the search with the goal of one person,” Friedman said. “It doesn’t mean it can’t morph into more, but they are starting the search with the goal of one person.”

Sunny Mehta not only Panthers candidate as Maple Leafs cast wide net

The insider also confirmed that the Leafs could request interviews with several members of the Florida Panthers’ front office. Last week, Friedman revealed that one of them was Sunny Mehta.

“One name I do think is going to be part of Toronto’s search, and he’s been kind of discussed this week, is Sunny Mehta, one of the assistant general managers of the Florida Panthers. I do think he’s going to be a factor,” he said, via Yardbarker.

Friedman has now offered an update, revealing that Mehta is not the only person in Florida the Toronto franchise has in mind.

“We’ve talked about one specific member of the Florida front office. But I don’t think that’s the only request that will be made of the Panthers. I think the Maple Leafs could ask for multiple permissions to talk to people with Florida.”
