The San Francisco 49ers need help in the trenches, and a new mock draft from Yahoo Sports’ Nate Tice adds a big body to the defensive front.
Tice mocked Clemson defensive tackle Peter Woods to the 49ers at No. 27, despite San Francisco trading for Dallas Cowboys defensive lineman Osa Odighizuwa earlier this offseason. Adding someone like Woods to the defensive front would give the 49ers considerable size and depth in the interior of the offensive line alongside 2025 second-round pick Alfred Collins.
Coming into the season, Woods was projected to be one of the first players drafted, but a quiet 2025 campaign could have him falling to the bottom of the first round — where he can play on a talented defensive line right away.
Woods had two sacks in 2025 and five total over the past two seasons for the Tigers. He finished his college career with 14.5 total tackles for a loss, too.

NFL.com’s Lance Zierlein compared Woods to another ex-Clemson first-rounder in Christian Wilkins.
Woods is a young interior defender with room to add play strength as he fills out his frame. He’s not a pure one- or two-gap fit, but he’s capable in both schemes. He plays with good lower-body explosiveness into initial contact, keeping his hands and feet synced to work around blocks when needed. He’s more of an active brawler than double-team eating tree stump. Shorter arms allow blockers to crowd his frame and force him to fight harder at the point. Yet, his ability to overtake and win as the rep progresses is impressive. He lacks quick-win talent as a solo rusher, but he’s fully functional as part of a pocket-collapsing collective. His 2024 tape might be a better representation of his upside, but Woods clearly has the potential to become a solid starter in an even front.
If the 49ers want potential they can develop, Woods would be a great option in the first round.
