The Scottish singer-songwriter, who first captivated audiences with stripped-back covers and soul-stirring performances at lavish weddings across the globe – many of which found a wider audience on TikTok – now steps confidently into her own story with the release of her latest single, ‘Slow Motion’.
The sweeping, deeply personal ballad draws from the quiet strength of her relationship with her husband – a grounding force amid the noise and unpredictability of her rising career. It’s a song that lingers in the in-between moments, where love isn’t loud but steadfast, offering a sense of stillness in a chaotic world.
Co-written with friend and fellow recording artist Tim Gallagher, the epic love song, marks a pivotal moment in Red’s evolution. No longer defined by reinterpretation, she continues her transition into fully realised original artistry, pairing her powerhouse vocal delivery with songwriting that feels both diaristic and universal. With ‘Slow Motion’, she isn’t just proving she can sing – she’s making it clear she has something to say, and a singular way of saying it.
In an exclusive interview with CelebMix ahead of the singles release, the ‘Never’ singer said of the track: “‘Slow Motion’ is a song about my relationship with my husband, our story, and how much his love and support means to me.”
“We live in such a chaotic world, where so much of what happens is out of our control… life comes at us fast doesn’t it? And I sometimes struggle dealing with that. But whenever I’m feeling anxious or going through a hard time, he’s the person who talks me down, and reminds me of what’s truly important. He gives me the energy and affirmations I need to be the best version of myself. I hope everyone has someone like him in their life, he’s the best.”
Elaborating on the lyrical concept of the song further, she adds: “When I first had the idea for the song, I pictured those classic romantic movie moments – where the two main characters finally admit they’re completely in love. Everything around them is sped up, emphasising the chaos of the world they’re in, but between them, time feels slow and still, because they’ve found a sense of peace in each other.”
“I co-wrote it with Tim Gallagher who is a dear friend, and an incredible artist in his own right! He and I both experienced going ‘viral’ at roughly the same time, and so we bonded over that (laughs). I’m so inspired by his music, and way in which he manages his career – he’s an amazing talent!”
Following the release of ‘Slow Motion’, Red is set to embark on her first-ever UK headline tour next month. The run begins at Hoxton Hall in London on May 10th, before the 2025 CelebMix Award winner heads to Manchester, Glasgow and Cardiff for a series of intimate live dates.
