The first day of the NCAA tournament is in the books, and 16 teams have officially secured a spot in the second round.
Both top-ranked teams who played on Thursday made it out of the opening round, though Duke just barely snuck past Siena after a scare. Had the Blue Devils lost, it would have marked the biggest upset in NCAA tournament history.

Several notable teams did fall, however, including Wisconsin after it lost in the final seconds to High Point on a late layup. The Panthers will now have to take on Arkansas, which rolled past Hawaii without any issue, on Thursday. VCU stunned North Carolina in overtime, too, and completed the largest first round comeback in tournament history. The Rams hadn’t won a tournament game since 2016.
And while it wasn’t close, Nebraska finally won its first ever NCAA tournament game in school history. The Cornhuskers beat Troy 76-47 after Pryce Sandfort dropped 23 points. They’ll have to take on Vanderbilt in the second round on Saturday.
Here’s everything you need to know to keep up with Saturday’s second round action.
