HENDERSON, Nev. — The Hawaii women’s basketball team’s remarkable run came to a disheartening end with today’s 60-48 loss to UC San Diego in the championship game of the Big West Tournament at Lee’s Family Forum.
The Rainbow Wahine constructed a 28-20 lead at the intermission and led 32-21 early in the third quarter. But UCSD center Erin Condron and guard Makayla Rose sparked an 11-0 run to tie it 3 :35 left in the third quarter. The Tritons scored the final six points of the third quarter and eight of the first 10 of the final period to cruise to the title.

After starting the season 6-9 (and 0-5 in the Big West ), the Wahine went 16-1 entering today’s championship game. But their 10-game winning streak was stopped by the Tritons, who won all three meetings this season.
Condron finished with 22 points on 10-for-18 shooting, and Rose produced 17 points, eight rebounds and five steals. Condron, Rose and Dymonique Maxie played all 40 minutes for the Tritons.
Bailey Flavell, who scored 13 points, was the only Wahine in double figures.
