Jaron Ennis speaks out on failed Vergil Ortiz fight and reveals new target

    -

Jaron Ennis has spoken on his potential fight with Vergil Ortiz after weeks of drama on the other side.

The unbeaten pair have been linked to each other for some time, in a fight that would have been one of the most anticipated in all of boxing.

Ennis, a former unified welterweight world champion, moved up to 154lbs in October and claimed a first round TKO victory over Uisma Lima to win the vacant WBA interim super-welterweight title.

One month later, Ortiz stopped Erickson Lubin inside two rounds, with ‘Boots’ getting in the ring afterwards for a face-off as the two men looked destined for a clash with one another.

Several hurdles have presented themselves in recent months though, notably Ortiz becoming embroiled in a legal battle with his promoter Oscar De La Hoya.

De La Hoya’s Golden Boy recently won a court ruling, granting the company’s motion to compel arbitration with Ortiz, and Ennis has posted on social media to concede that it now means it’s ‘time to move on’ from the fight.

“I did everything In my power to make this fight happen for the fans. I waited long enough and I stayed quiet through it all. It looks like Vergil or his team really didnt want to fight.

“I came to his fight in his home town and told him he was next. That was November, it’s March and still nothing. It’s time to move on. Two division champion up next. I told y’all the truth was gone come to the light.”

Ennis will now seemingly target one of the world champions at 154lbs, where Xander Zayes holds the WBA and WBO belts, Josh Kelly is the IBF champion, and Sebastian Fundora is in possession of the WBC title.
