There’s no question the Dallas Cowboys could benefit from beefing up their linebacking unit this offseason.

While many believed to lose hope in the Cowboys’ ability to address that area with multiple targets off the board (Nakobe Dean and Quay Walker recently joined the Las Vegas Raiders), it appeared feasible for Dallas to pull off a trade for 26-year-old Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker Patrick Queen.

However, according to a new report from the NFL Network’s Jane Slater, a potential Cowboys-Queen trade isn’t as realistic as it once seemed.

“Seems like the Patrick Queen idea may have hit a snag,” Slater reported on X/Twitter Tuesday. “Was told no updates as of this hour and on him specifically “probably not going there.”

The Cowboys have every reason to be frustrated by Slater’s Tuesday morning report. While Queen experienced an up-and-down campaign with the Steelers last season (he wasn’t great in coverage and missed 31 tackles, but had his moments as a high-upside run-stopping linebacker), he would be deemed a revelation for a Cowboys squad that could certainly use his services moving forward.

The LSU product recorded 56 solo tackles, 64 assisted tackles, one sack, and one forced fumble in 17 games with a Steelers squad that punched its ticket to the playoffs in Week 17 vs. the Baltimore Ravens (the Houston Texans eliminated them in the AFC Wild Card round, though).

Unfortunately, all signs point to the Cowboys missing out on Queen this offseason.
