On Sunday, Dec. 14, 2025, Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele Singer Reiner, were found dead in their Los Angeles home, having both suffered apparent stab wounds. Within a matter of hours, their 32-year-old son, Nick, was arrested on suspicion of double murder.
Nick appeared in Los Angeles Superior Court last month, facing two counts of first-degree murder with special circumstances. He pleaded not guilty during his arraignment. If convicted, he could face life in prison without parole or the death penalty. He will next appear in court on April 29.
The deaths of two such beloved and well-connected Hollywood locals sent shockwaves across the industry, particularly as Rob and Michele had been with many of their famous peers the night before they died.
For a reminder, on Saturday, Dec. 13, Rob and Michele attended Conan O’Brien’s holiday party. Nick also attended with them, and the Reiners’ night at the party apparently ended prematurely after Nick and Rob engaged in a “very loud argument.”
Another report from the Hollywood Reporter suggests that Nick’s “asocial and unsettling behavior” was what led to the alleged argument between him and Rob. “Minutes later, the Reiners, mortified, apologized to O’Brien and left the party,” the THR report said. “It has not been determined if Nick left with them.”
Prosecutors believe that Nick fatally stabbed Rob and Michele in the early hours of the morning on Dec. 14. Their bodies were discovered at around 3:40 p.m., by which point Nick had fled the scene.
Discussing the murders for the first time during an interview with the New Yorker in February, Conan recalled Rob and Michele leaving the party that night, saying: “To have that experience of saying good night to somebody and having them leave and then find out the next day that they’re gone…I think I was in shock for quite a while afterward.”
Now, Conan has spoken for a second time about Rob and Michele’s deaths, specifically about the experience of having his name “dragged” into the media firestorm surrounding the tragedy.
“Very simply, we had a party, we invited our really good friends and then, the next day, this terrible thing happened,” Conan said in a new cover interview with the Hollywood Reporter ahead of his Oscars hosting gig on Sunday.
Paying tribute to Rob and Michele’s loved ones, he continued: “Whatever difficulties my wife and I have experienced having our name attached to it are nothing compared to the scale of the tragedy for the family and the loss of Rob and Michele.”
“If you’re a known person, your name is going to get dragged into things sometimes, but it is not a hardship,” he concluded. “There is only sadness that they’re gone.”
