Virginia Tech head coach Mike Young was emotional after the Hokies’ 76-72 loss to Virginia in the regular-season finale on Saturday.
“What the f— am I doing wrong?” Young said in the postgame.
Virginia Tech finished the regular season 19-12 overall and 8-10 in the ACC. The Hokies are currently are on the bubble to make the NCAA tournament.

Young has been the head coach at Virginia Tech since 2019. He has a 192-97 overall record and is 60-70 in the ACC during his time at Virginia Tech. Young was the ACC Coach of the Year in 2021.
Virginia Tech AD Whit Babcock told Roanoke Times’ Mark Berman that Young will be back next season despite their current three-year NCAA tournament drought.
Before Young went to Virginia Tech, he was the head coach of Wofford for 17 seasons. Wofford went 299-244 overall and 173-124 in the Southern Conference, and Young was a four-time Coach of the Year.
Young was also an assistant coach at Wofford for 13 seasons. He also spent time as an assistant coach at Emory & Henry and Radford after his playing career at Emory & Henry ended.

Virginia Tech now heads into the ACC Tournament. The first day of the tournament is on Tuesday. Virginia Tech won the ACC Tournament under Young in 2022.
