Man United academy fixtures re-arranged in busy month

Manchester United’s youth teams are now entering the business end of the season.

    First team debuts

The Red Devils have already handed out first-team debuts to four academy players this season.

Twins Jack Fletcher and Tyler Fletcher have both been given opportunities in the Premier League.

Bendito Mantato and Shea Lacey have both been given limited opportunities, with the latter almost scoring a wonder goal versus Burnley at the start of the year.

    Successful season

The under-18s currently sit second in the league and have two big cup matches to look forward to this month.

They will first of all face West Ham in the Premier League Cup semi-final tomorrow.

The youth side will also face Sunderland in the quarter-final of the famous FA Youth Cup later this month.

The under-21s are also enjoying a productive season, currently sitting third in the table behind Ipswich Town and Chelsea.

They did lose last night, though, 2-0 to Chelsea and Danish striker Chido Obi was taken off with a serious-looking head injury.

    Fixture changes

The club’s official website has confirmed that the academy’s fixture list has undergone some schedule rearrangements for this month.

It is stated that “the Under-21s have a Premier League 2 game against Southampton on Friday 13 March. The clash was due to be played in the evening but has switched to a 13:00 GMT kick-off, and will take place at Carrington.”

What’s more, “the Under-18s have had to move the away game at Sunderland on 14 March. It will now be staged at the Academy of Light on Saturday 25 April instead, kicking off at 12:30 BST.”

This is owing to the Youth Cup quarter-final against the same opponents scheduled for the 18th of this month.
