Sensex Today: Indian equity benchmarks opened in positive territory on Thursday, tracking largely upbeat global cues.
The BSE Sensex started at 83,880, up 146 points or 0.17 per cent, while the Nifty 50 opened at 25,839, gaining 19 points or 0.07 per cent.

In the broader market, the Nifty Midcap 100 edged up 0.02 per cent, and the Nifty Smallcap 100 advanced 0.17 per cent in early trade.
Global Cues
Asia-Pacific markets advanced in early trade, led by strong gains in South Korea. The KOSPI touched a fresh high, rising nearly 3 per cent, while Japan’s Nikkei 225 gained around 1 per cent.
Markets in mainland China and Hong Kong remained closed for the Lunar New Year holidays.
Overnight, Wall Street ended higher, supported by strength in key technology stocks. The S&P 500 rose 0.56 per cent, the Dow Jones Industrial Average added 0.26 per cent, and the Nasdaq Composite climbed 0.78 per cent.
Commodities Watch
Oil prices extended gains in the Asian session amid heightened geopolitical tensions. Brent crude futures had surged about 4 per cent in the previous session after traders factored in the possibility of renewed conflict between the US and Iran, following inconclusive talks in Geneva, according to a Reuters report.
Meanwhile, gold and silver futures pared gains in thin holiday trade on Thursday. Both precious metals had advanced in the prior session on geopolitical concerns and expectations around the US Federal Reserve’s policy trajectory. Gold futures were down 0.32 per cent, while silver futures slipped 0.51 per cent in early trade.
