Serena Williams shared a glimpse at her progress five months after revealing she was taking GLP-1 medication for weight loss.
The tennis star shared in August 2025 that she started the treatment after struggling to lose weight through diet and exercise following the births of her daughters, Olympia and Adira. She told TODAY that she had been on the medication for nearly a year and had lost 34 pounds.
“I feel great,” she told People. “I feel really good and healthy. I feel light physically and light mentally.”
“I just can do more,” she added. “I’m more active. My joints don’t hurt as much. I just feel like something as simple as just getting down is a lot easier for me. And I do it a lot faster. I feel like I have a lot of energy, and it’s great. I just feel pretty good about it.”
Fast forward to this week, when Serena shared a new photo of herself on Instagram. In the mirror selfie, she’s wearing a tank top and shorts while brushing her teeth — and looks noticeably slimmer.
For comparison, here she is last March at the Vanity Fair Oscar Party before she says she consistently started the medication:
The post came days after Serena gave another interview to TODAY, where she said she was still taking the medication and credited it with improving her blood sugar and cholesterol.
“It’s more about … not even the weight loss,” she explained, “but it’s about longevity.”
Serena also shared that she intends to continue taking GLP-1s long-term. “I think, for me, GLP-1s are a lifetime thing,” she said. “There’s a time when you can take it differently, but I feel like it’s just a part of my story and a part of my health journey.”
