When the Dallas Cowboys’ Week 18 game against the New York Giants finished, for most of Cowboys Nation, that was the time to give Matt Eberflus his marching orders.

With nothing to suggest that Eberflus should be back as Dallas’ defensive coordinator, it appears to be the one move the entire football world knows is coming.

So, there is no sense in dragging it out, right? The Cowboys’ defense was so bad that nothing Eberflus could say would warrant him returning.

Rip the band-aid off as soon as possible and begin the search for your next defensive coordinator, right?

Well, for head coach Brian Schottenheimer, he’s not rushing into anything.

“No, just go through the process,” Schottenheimer said. “Once you go through the process, you know what you want to do. I don’t think we’ll rush any of these decisions. You got to go through the process and do the work. It’s not easy, it’s tedious. We’re going to be working just as hard this week and over the next 10 to 12 days to get through all of that stuff, so we feel good about everything.

“We’re going to go through the process. We’re going to go through some things. That’s a big part of what we’re going to do over the next 12 days.”

    Schottenheimer’s comments are baffling

Granted, this is coming from someone outside the building, but does it really take 10-12 days to come to a decision on Eberflus?

That is the biggest decision Dallas has to make, and after allowing 30+ points for the ninth time this season to the lowly Giants, there is no reason that a decision on Eberflus needs to take nearly two weeks, right?

Well, apparently not for the Cowboys. Unless they are waiting until after the playoffs finish, or their next coordinator is on a playoff team.

We know how long the front office took to move on from Mike McCarthy, and it appears the Cowboys won’t be rushed into a decision on Eberflus.
